Frequently Asked Questions

I have done my best to answer the most frequently asked questions regarding my booking process down below. If you do not find what you’re after, please feel free to send in an email and my wonderful booking assistant Anna will get back to you!

Where is the studio?

FANCY BIRD is my private studio in the Bloor/Landsdowne area of Toronto.

If you have an appointment booked with me, my assistant Melissa will send you the address and information to get into the building before your appointment.

If you are driving in, I recommend parking at the Green P lot located at 695 Landsdowne Ave. Parking ID 081. Signage is unclear on the streets surrounding the studio but you will be ticketed.

How do I book an appointment?

I only book out 3-4 months at a time - clients are notified of my books opening only via my newsletter. You can find all required information to submit a request for an appointment here

Appointments are chosen on a project to project basis and are not first-come-first-served as I have a limited amount of appointment slots for each 3 month booking period. I charge per piece and not by hour as I find this to be the most fair pricing structure for both clients and myself - please submit a complete inquiry and I will happily provide you with a pricing estimate for your project.

You must be at least 18 years of age to receive a tattoo from me.

What does your appointment process look like?

If your project is approved, I will send you a link to read through my complete appointment terms and conditions - from there you will be able to select your own date and time for your appointment. I require a 100$ Appointment Retainer upon selecting a date to secure the time of your booking which will be deducted from the final cost of your tattoo on the day of your appointment. I have all drawings ready for the day of the appointment and book adequate time at the beginning of all sessions to allow for modifications and adjustments to the design if need be. If you would prefer to come in to discuss your project idea in person, I can arrange to book you in for a consultation prior to booking your tattoo appointment. If you would like to come in for a consultation, please ask in your initial appointment request before booking a date.

I book all appointments on a half or full day basis. A half day is a 4 hour appointment slot and a full day is a 6-8 hour appointment slot. Time booked for appointments include and allow for: design discussion, design modification (if and when applicable), stencil placement, application of the tattoo and any breaks required. My minimum pricing is 450$ + HST and my day rate caps at 1200$ + HST. For reference, hand sized (~5”) pieces or smaller are generally booked for a half day unless they are to be placed on a more sensitive or challenging area (ribs, neck, hands), anything larger would be typically be booked for a full day. I am happy to break up full day appointments into half day sittings if the client is more comfortable sitting for a shorter session.

If you would prefer to have a silent appointment (minimal chatting aside from any conversation critical to the tattoo process), please feel free to mention it prior to coming in and I will make note of it in your booking details.

Upon finishing your tattoo, I will explain aftercare to you, answer any additional questions you may have and will provide you with our studio’s aftercare sheet. I use self-adhesive medical bandages (Dynarex Viewguard) to wrap clients after their session, however I am happy to provide alternatives upon request.

I guarantee all tattoos that I make, so touch-ups are offered free of charge within 6 months of you receiving your tattoo to make sure it looks as good as the day you got it.

What kind of work are you interested in doing?

I specialize in black and grey tattoos with a focus on natural subject matter.  Flora and fauna will always be my priority when it comes selecting projects.

Due to the nature of my tattoo style, I do not tend to take on projects smaller than 3 inches or cover up existing work. I am also not keen on including text elements in my tattoo designs as I find that lettering tends to take away from the organic flow of a design on the body. In the case of a client requesting text, I will tend to suggest that we come up with and incorporate a visual element to represent what the text would have.

A tattoo is a collaborative effort between client and artist, so it is of my belief that you deserve to work with an artist who feels as committed to your project as you are. For this reason, I will only ever take on projects that I am confident I will be able to commit to and make to 100% of my creative ability. If you are unsure whether or not your design fits the above criteria, please feel free to submit an appointment request regardless and we can go from there. I will do my very best to respond to all appointment requests, whether I believe that I am fit for the project or not.

Are you comfortable tattooing deep complexions/larger bodies/etcetera?

Absolutely - The specifics of a client’s physique should play no part in terms of what projects an artist chooses to take on. In a push to most accurately display how my work looks on all folks, I have moved away from editing or desaturating  photos of my tattoo work.

Do you have pre-drawn designs that I can look through?

As I prefer to draw all designs to fit each individual client, I no longer have a book of pre-drawn designs to choose from. Please submit an inquiry for a custom tattoo and we can go from there.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Please make sure that you are well-rested the night before your appointment. Partying prior to your tattoo session tends to make sitting for a tattoo much more strenuous as your body will be in recovery mode before we even put the stencil on. Eat a good meal before coming in and hydrate properly. Bring a snack and a beverage with you to your appointment and wear comfortable clothing suitable to the area you intend on having tattooed.

If you are getting your ribs or back tattooed, consider bringing a button down shirt or cardigan with you to wear backwards during your appointment so that your front can remain covered while still allowing access to the area being tattooed. If you are getting your chest, sternum or stomach tattooed, consider bringing pasties or wearing a bathing suit top that can be manipulated to access the area being tattooed. I will never require you to expose a part of your body during the tattoo process unless my having access to that area is necessary for me to complete your tattoo. Makeshift coverings will be provided if need be to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

While it is not necessary, I do recommend wearing darker coloured clothing to your appointment as sometimes ink from the tattooing process can transfer onto and stain garments. I do my best to protect your clothes, but accidents happen!

Please do not plan to be somewhere immediately after your scheduled tattoo appointment. While we do our best to stay on schedule, things happen and time constraints are stressful when applying a tattoo.

What payment types do you accept?

I accept cash or e-transfer to settle the balance owed after your session. Please factor in the 13% Ontario sales tax when preparing for your appointment. We do not have a point of sale terminal at the studio, so credit is not accepted.

If you are coming in from the US, please come to your appointment with CAD!
